The Finger Sweep

Scary Moment! Miss Paisley was sitting on the couch next to me as I'm working on the computer (um ok watching last nights episode of dancing with the stars on abc.com) She kept saying something over and over that sounded like, "e-ick". Raven figured out she wanted a cheese stick. Next thing I know she's gagging next to me! The last bit of the cheese stick had slid down her throat and she was choking! I stuck my finger in her mouth and could feel it in her throat, I screamed, "She's choking!" as I swept my finger down her throat thinking I may need to tip her upside down, then captured that slippery cheese stick as my heart was racing! Scared me half to death! I was so grateful that I was right next to her when it happened and was cursing myself as a parent for the times I let her walk around the house with cheese stick in her hand! What if she would have been downstairs with the kids and I wasn't near her and the kids didn't notice she was choking??? You tend to be more lax with the 3rd child and this was a wake up call. I did the Heimlich on Raven a couple times when she was young. Once was on her 1st birthday when she got some plastic wrap off of a tape in her mouth and was gagging and I tipped her upside down while hitting her and she threw up all over! Another time was when she was in her high chair eating green beans laughing at her brother when she started choking, I whipped her out of her chair and tipped her again while hitting her, cursing that she was strapped in the high chair and it took me awhile to get her out. Anyone else have any scary choking moments??

baptized

All 3 kiddos got baptized today! It was awesome! And miss Paisley was so well behaved, our pastor asked if she was always this good.... well ugh no!

"Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit." (NLT, Matthew 28:19)
And then he told them, "Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone, everywhere. Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned. (NLT, Mark 16:15-16)

Baptism is a means God uses to convey grace. The person baptized is set free from the power of sin and given a new spiritual life (John 3:5-7). The covenantal view holds that baptism is not a means of spiritual rebirth, but a sign and seal of God's covenant of salvation. Baptism depicts the freeing from sin that occurs with repentance (Acts 2:38),

There were 2 tiny babies and another family with 3 older kids. I will post pictures when I can. Grandma Bette went. Paisley wore her cute purple "Ao Dai" from Vietnam. She also had on silver sparkle shoes! Funny thing is when we were in Vietnam I picked out the same outfit for Raven and then the ladies measured Paisley and custom made one to fit her. Well it just now fits over a year later! And the girl has done some growing. Raven looked pretty as can be in a new blue flowing top with leggings and sparkle sandals. That girl and her sandals! It's going to be cold, like in the 30's tomorrow so she better wear warm shoes! She did change into her brown furry boots before a birthday party at Pump It UP this afternoon. Ryker looked handsome as heck in a nice white shirt with dress pants. He is such a huge help with the girls and especially Paisley. He was so tired today though because he had a sleep over last night and it took some talking to get those boys to bed!
Yesterday all of us except Ryker (oh and my niece Rylee ) went to High School Musical 3 in the theatre. Raven got all decked out in her rock star gear. She even talked me into some eye shadow. Lord help me when she's a teen! Miss Paisley was as happy as can be sitting on Dad's lap eating popcorn. I think it's the first time she's had any. I don't think I let my others have popcorn till they were much older. And poor Ryker probably wasn't allowed any till he was 5! Oh how things change with that 3rd child. half way through the movie Pais had had enough without any nap! So she started throwing things and straightening out in her little fit-mode. So Dad got to take her out to the car and listen to the "game" on the radio. I'm sure he was happy for the timing! She went to sleep in her car seat. Poor thing has a worse cold today. I swear I thought she was so sick the week before last but it was just her teeth. Now she's got all the cold crap that's going around and she coughed herself to sleep tonight. I hope she gets better soon. I brought her out of her crib to give her some water for her throat and was holding her and loving on her when she points to her room and says, "Go! Mom!" She was ready to go back to bed! So funny. She had so much fun at the birthday party today. She ran around and bounced like crazy. But got a little bent out of shape when her friend decided he wanted to sit in the car she was riding around in. Of course she LOVED the cake and juice. I never give her juice so she just sat there with that juicy box and drank the whole thing gone with out barely taking a breath!
It was a fab weekend, but getting a bit too cold for my blood. SO windy today Grandma was in a full sprint out of church with the wind pushing her all the way to the car!

Kiddo Update

Ryker went on his first church camp weekend getaway. He loved it but was so exhausted! I drove him and 3 other kids Friday night, 2 hours one way, 2 hours in peace on the way home. But I was tired the next day. They had cute little cabins with about 8 boys in each. Well there were girls in their own cabins as well. They had chapel, games, bible time, free time and more. He talked about the fun of hiding in the bushes at night to scare the girls. And he liked that a cute girl from his old neighborhood was there. A 14 yr old boy that rode with us said, "with girls Ryker, it's not all about the looks. I learned that a long time ago!" what a kill! He's getting advice from a kid a few years older then him. I'm glad he had the opportunity to go. He really wants to go next summer for their week long camp. He's almost done with soccer, then we start basketball. He's still addicted to some online games that I have to monitor and make sure he doesn't abuse. At his teacher conferences one teacher said that he really has the respect of his peers! I love that! He's new there this year, so I was happy to hear that.

Raven is the spit fire she's always been. She cannot keep still or quite for 2 minutes. I'm thankful for the dvd player in the car although that doesn't always work. She loves her brother and sister so much. She teases her brother and bugs him so that usually leads to a few fights. She loves getting her sister up in the morning, so I thought it was funny yesterday when Paisley woke up she was yelling, "Bay-ben! Come!" She is doing very well in school, does great on spelling test and loves to read. She is still an outdoors girl and I wish we had a bigger yard in this temporary house! She does too. She also wishes she had a bigger room and an upstairs. "What kind of a house doesn't have an upstairs?" She doesn't get the concept of a Ranch. Morning and bedtime can still be a struggle. We have to be sure all her things are ready for morning and that she has a couple of outfits picked out ready to go. At night she just has the hardest time calming down for bedtime. Then she just keeps coming out of her room to tell us things or needing something. She loves her friends. She talks about a couple of them from her class all the time. They were taking gifts to school to exchange but the teacher put a stop to that saying there was some jealously and it wasn't good to do. The teacher said when she gets something in her mind that needs to be expressed she can't wait to get it out! (we've always known this) She may just need another pencil or cut her finger a little so that hand goes up and she can't focus on what the teacher is saying till she gets her thoughts out. It's funny because my husband always says she's just like me, which may kinda be the case right now, but when I was little I was so painfully shy. And I was never that outgoing in school till high school. OH and guess what she just told me? They had school pictures last week and she wanted to wear her Hannah Montana shirt, ok fine. But when she got out of the car I discovered she had on a zebra striped coat with big white feathery color and arm cuffs that is a size 2T and looked like a crop jacket on her! She looked like a little pimp! Well she just informed me yesterday that she wore that jacket for her school pictures! I was like, WHAT?! She thought it was cool. I was not happy and told her I was to approve what she wears for pictures. She said sorry she didn't know:) Riiiight!

Paisley is getting more and more vocal. When we drove in the driveway last night she said, "Dadda (pause) home" It's so cute cause she'll say a couple word sentences with a long pause between words. She says "stop it!" That's when her sister gets in her face or does something she doesn't like. She loves me to read books to her and sit on my lap and do "whoa-whoa", row-row the boat! And she sings a lot. Loves to sit and rock her babies and sing to them. Still likes to take her shoes off in the car! She just started throwing things when she's upset. It might be her sippy cup, pacifier but she will just chuck it and yell "no!". oh oh her comes the 2's! She is usually the happy baby she's always been. If she's tired you all know it though. She's had a couple of rough nights and I think it's her teeth. But a little motrin helps it all. If she bumps herself or gets hurt in anyway she says, "i-ack", ice-pack and points to the refrigerator. She loves puppies and yelps like them if she sees one. She also loves babies and like to sing "the wheels on the bus". We're growing her bangs and she refuses to leave a barette in which looks so cute so we occassionally add the pony tail on top or piggy tails. I'm looking forward to taking her sledding this winter. I'm going to become a snow bunny since the past 2 winters nearly did me in so I'm going to embrace the winter activities! Maybe I'll learn to ice skate! Anyway I want to pull her out on the snow with her cute little snow suit on. We put out our Halloween decorations. We haven't made a trip to the pumpkin patch yet so we'll have to do that this weekend. It's not always easy with kids so spread out in age. Ryker likes the scary haunted mazes and houses which are at night but the younger ones like the little kid things. We've had great fall weather! Yes!
And don't forget to vote! Time for the last presidential debate 08!
